No. 22 Illinois still has some big goals to achieve. The Illini can match their highest win total in 17 years and move within one of the school record if they beat struggling Northwestern at Wrigley Field to close out the regular season. Illinois is now in line for its highest win total since the 2007 Rose Bowl team finished 9-4. The school record is 10, most recently during the 2001 Sugar Bowl season. Northwestern was blown out 50-6 at Michigan last week after getting thumped by No. 2 Ohio State in its first game this season at Wrigley Field.

Freshman Kasparas Jakucionis scored a season-high 23 points, Tomislav Ivisic had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Illinois beat No. 19 Arkansas 90-77 in the Thanksgiving Hoops Showcase. Kylan Boswell added 18 points for Illinois (6-1). Head coach Brad Underwood broke a tie with J. Craig Ruby (1922-36) for fifth place in program history with 149 wins. Adou Thiero went 12 of 21 from the line and scored 26 points for Arkansas (5-2). Zvonimir Ivisic had 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks.

No. 22 Illinois will try to reach nine wins for the first time since 2007 when it goes against Northwestern on Saturday at Wrigley Field. The Illini squeezed out a 38-31 victory at Rutgers last week when Luke Altmyer connected with Pat Bryant for a catch-and-run, 40-yard touchdown pass with 4 seconds remaining. Northwestern has been outscored a combined 81-13 the past two games. The Wildcats got blown out 50-6 at Michigan last week after getting thumped by No. 2 Ohio State in the first game this season at Wrigley Field.

Freshman Kasparas Jakucionis hit three 3-pointers and scored 21 points — both season highs — and Tomislav Ivisic had a double-double to help Illinois beat Little Rock 92-34. Ivisic scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds. Tre White made a layup and then hit two free throws to give Illinois the lead for good with 18:26 left in the first half. The Fighting Illini scored 23 consecutive points — including four 3-pointers and three dunks — to take a 30-point lead when White made a layup with 4:05 left in the first half. The Trojans went 0 for 9 from the field and committed three turnovers during an scoring drought of nearly-8 minutes. Jordan Jefferson led Little Rock (3-4) with 11 points.

Kansas running back Devin Neal is The Associated Press college football player of the week. The senior ran for 207 yards and three touchdowns on a career-high 37 carries and caught four passes for 80 yards and a TD in the Jayhawks’ 37-21 win over Colorado. Neal’s rushing total was the second highest of his career and made him the first player in program history to surpass 1,000 yards in three seasons. The game marked the second time in his career he scored four total touchdowns and the fourth time he ran for three scores.

Will Riley scored his 19 points in the second half and No. 25 Illinois beat Maryland Eastern Shore 87-40 on Saturday. Kylan Boswell added 13 points, Tomislav Ivisic had 11 and Morez Johnson Jr. finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Illini (4-1), who shot 25% (10 for 40) from 3-point range but committed just nine turnovers. Jalen Ware scored 10 points and Christopher Flippin had 10 rebounds for Maryland Eastern Shore (2-6), which had its lowest point total of the season.

Luke Altmyer found Pat Bryant for a catch-and-run, 40-yard touchdown pass with 4 seconds left, sending No. 24 Illinois to a wild 38-31 victory over Rutgers. Illinois was down 31-30 when it sent long kicker Ethan Moczulski out for a desperation 58-yard field goal with 14 seconds to go. Rutgers coach Greg Schiano then called for a timeout right before Moczulski’s attempt was wide left and about 15 yards short. After the missed field goal was waved off by the timeout, Illinois coach Bret Bielema sent his offense back on the field. Altmyer hit Bryant on an in cut on the left side at the 22, and he continued across the field and scored untouched.

Rutgers will try to post its first three-game winning streak in conference play since joining the Big Ten in 2014 when it plays host to No. 24 Illinois on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights became bowl eligible last weekend with a win at Maryland. Illinois snapped a two-game losing streak this past weekend by beating Michigan State. The win returned the Illini to the Top 25. Two of its losses this season are to No. 1 Oregon and No. 4 Penn State.

No. 24 Illinois will try to take another step toward its first nine-win season since 2007 when it travels to New Jersey to face Rutgers on Saturday at SHI Stadium. The Illini (7-3, 4-3, No. 25 CFP) snapped a two-game losing streak last weekend with a win over Michigan State. Rutgers (6-4, 3-4) is coming into the game riding a two-game winning streak in what has been a rollercoaster season. It started with four straight wins and then four straight losses. The Scarlet Knight have never won three straight conference games since joining the Big Ten in 2014.

Alabama didn’t slow down even with a scoreless night from star Mark Sears. The preseason All-American guard watched from the bench as the eighth-ranked Crimson Tide held off No. 25 Illinois 100-87. His teammates like Labaron Philon and Aden Holloway were doing just fine on their own. Triple digits points with zero from Sears was a statement in itself for a team that he led to the Final Four last season. The preseason Southeastern Conference player of the year was a cheerleader after exiting with 11:27 left.

Grant Nelson scored 23 points and Aden Holloway had 18 to lead No. 8 Alabama to a 100-87 win over No. 25 Illinois in a matchup of Elite Eight teams from last season. Freshman Labaron Philon had 16 points, nine assists and seven rebounds to help the Crimson Tide (4-1) overcome a scoreless night from preseason All-American Mark Sears. Latrell Wrightsell Jr. also had 16 points for Alabama. Nelson opened the game with three straight 3-pointers. Will Riley led Illinois with 18 points and nine rebounds.
